Because there's a certain strand of nonsense that seems increasingly out of place over on the old Workblog.

I’m starting to think about a presentation that Sheret  asked me to do at this year’s Thought Bubble con in November. I’m feeling it may be something of my attempt to do what Fraction did with his The Batman Dreams of Hieronymus Machines. Not 1:1 or anything, but just an exegesis on the last decade or so of text and trying to do comics. I actually did my first comics in 2001, but they weren’t really out until 2002, which was also the year when I first started to actually approach people publishing stuff of mine. So a decade, of sort of “be”ing in the industry, whatever that means. Of doing it, whatever that means too.

Anyway, going through assorted early papers, including all sorts of things I’ve forgot, I find this. This always makes me smile. It’s the covers for the photocopied zine I put together in 2003, collating almost all of my existent comics. I decided to do it a week before Bristol Comic Con, provoking the need to produce a cover, instantly. My girlfriend of the time smeared Jam on my face, and I parodied the I GET WET Andrew W.K. cover. And then I undermined the arrogance of the pose with the back cover showing behind the curtains.

I wince at the Explicit Comics thing, but I totally needed to fill a tiny space on the cover. And one comic does involve the Queen Mum having sex with a horse, so I suppose it’s at least honest.
