Because there's a certain strand of nonsense that seems increasingly out of place over on the old Workblog.

DECOMPRESSED 006: Mark Waid, Matt Fraction and Jamie McKelvie On “Marvel Method” Scripting

Oh man! I haven’t tumblr-ized this week’s podcast.

Basically, as the title says. Marvel Method is the alternative way of scripting comics to “Full Script”, basically. Since it’s sort of been making a come back, we figured it would be an interesting thing to do a podcast about.

The podcast is available from here, along with massive amounts of art and script.

And here’s the embed, if leaving tumblr is too scary.

It is pretty scary though. I understand.

EVERYTHING BURNS: Prologue Out

(Crossposting this, as the JIM tumblr crowd is the JIM tumblr crowd. Much love, etc.)

We begin.

EVERYTHING BURNS is the epic conclusion to my run on Journey into Mystery and Matt’s run on Thor. The official prologue is out this week. Those of you who’ve been following JIM will know that THE MANCHESTER GODS was also a prologue to Everything Burns, except we kept it quiet and sneaky. The Mighty Thor prologue is more upfront, telling the other half of the history. Specifically the story of what happened in the first AESIR/VANIR WAR, an episode so dark in the history of Asgard that it’s been stricken from the history books. So, yes. Politics, old grudges and everything burning.

Those who pick it up will see that Matt and I are both credited on Story, while he’s handling Script. Basically, that’s how EVERYTHING BURNS work. Matt writes all the Thor issues and I write all the Journey Into Mystery ones, based on what we developed between us. It’s not quite as simple as that, as we both got our hands dirty in each other script’s at certain times. I fear connoisseurs of JIM-y overwritten captions about Magpies will see where I barged in. And in the series proper - basically we go Prologue, 6 issues and two epilogues - we also write the last scene in the other person’s book. Though that’s really just detail.

The non-prologue kick-off of it proper happens on the 29th in Journey Into Mystery 642, and then is weekly.

(Well, weekly until part 5. There’s a 3 week gap until the final part proper. Which means that people will be waiting on the climax during NYCC, which is the sort of thing which is going to lead to a lot of highly tenter-hooked conversations with folks there, I suspect.)

In other words, when we get into the heart of it, it motors. And when the ball starts rolling, it’s an enormous ball of STUFF. I’d say on a week by week basis, anyone who actively follows things like the JIM tag on tumblr should be careful, even if they get a single issue behind. And people who are waiting for the trade, I’d even say if spoilers matter to you, when we hit the next issue of JIM would be a good time to just give it up for a bit.

That said, I’d also encourage as many people to read it weekly as possible. That weekly delay will add a lot to the cliff-hangers, and it’s the sort of communal story-following experience I think a lot of people will get a kick out of.

Anyway, here’s the preview.
